 Intro

Strawberry Shortcake The Sweet Dream Game is a licensed video game based on the first Strawberry Shortcake full length movie of the same name.

Story

Lately, in Strawberryland some of Strawberry Shortcake friends haven't been able to dream for several days at night. They have come to strawberry shortcake seeking her help. Worried for her friends Strawberry shortcakes decides to solve their problems. She ventures to The Land of Dreams in search of the Dream factory to build new dreams for her friends.

Gameplay

You start off playing as Strawberry short cake in Strawberry Land. At the begging you can only jump and walk as you progress you will acquired "Dreams" special unique abilities that will help you overcome obstacles and solve problems. There are 4 different Dreams in total[Plant Dream(climb), Butterfly Dream(fly), Metamorphosis Dream(convert) and Strawberry Dream(holder)]. In order to use them you will have to collect "Bonuses"[small pink cloud(s)] one can fill the "Dream Metter" a marker that tells whether you can you a dream. Aside from the dreams in some levels you can find any of the following 3 special power ups a Winged Shoes(Run fast) Frog Head(Super Jumps), Sun Head( Run fast/Invulnerability). The most common item you will find in almost every level are "Seeds"(Pink orbs) collecting them will help you purchased items in the Fantasy Garden(garden shop) in here you can unlock things such as new characters, music and other things. Another way to get seeds in large quantity is by finding hidden "Gifts"(gift boxes)in levels for your friends and they will reward you immediately with seeds. Collecting seeds or gifs isn't necessary unless you want to purchase stuff which you don't really need to finish the game as all characters have the same abilities. Your main objective is to collect the "Keys" that open doors or boxes (that contain items that you need to advance such as "Diamond" & "Grains") that will let you progress to the next part of the level once you have collected the required number keys. Keys are usually hidden in the levels in places hard to reach for that you must use the dream abilities. There are some enemies(Berry Bird, Bats, and Penguins?) in the levels, but the real challenges are the obstacles and figuring out how to get to one place to the other. In this game there is not life's or bar meter if you fall you just re-spawn back a little backwards. If you get hit by an enemy or fall from a long distance to the floor seeds will fall from you but you still come recollect some of them if you are fast enough before they disappear. The difficulty level for this game is fairly easy but some of the last levels puzzles are bit difficult. Strawberry shortcakes friends come to screen often to give you advices, tips or to tell you something. Strawberry Shortcake The Sweet Dream Game is a 3D side scrolling game with the exception of 5 levels. Unlike the other levels these five levels play differently.

The Good

  • Characters (Luckily if you get bored of playing as the main character you can switch to other character once you start a new mission )

  • Graphics ( thanks to the style they used this game still looks decent)

The Bad

  • Control(In some parts that were vertically that controller was difficult to use)

  • Movement (character are slow)

  • Enemies (no good enemies and few, game could have done better without them)
  • Power Ups(practically useless)
  • Music(super boring that music used to put babies to sleep)
  • Levels(Some levels are badly design)

Verdict

I thought this title was going to be another of those bad 3D games where you collect stuff and move to the next level like in most movie based games of the PS2 era in part it was. I was surprised it was a 3D side scrolling game(but honestly I would have prefer it in 2D instead), but still this made this game a bit less generic. Playing this game trough the first levels It suck it was boring, slow and the power ups felt weird. As I progress through the game and begin accumulating "Dreams" the game got more interesting to play. I would say the most enjoyable part of this game is using some of the dreams to figure out how to reach places. Although none of the Unlockable items affect the game in a meaningful way I was glad that I could choose different characters this gave the game freshness.

Although I did enjoy a bit using "Dreams" the game still feel boring most of the time. The game was super easy to finish but it took a few hours because the character(s) moves really slow. Also every time you got a key they show up a cut scene showing the key unlocking a lock and each door have 3 to 5 locks so you had to see that every time you got a key that is just a waste of time. When I finish the game I notice it had a 2 star rating for difficulty, you will have to replay this game again 4 time to unlock all difficulty levels. I play it again and it unlock difficult level 3, what the difficult level does it changes things around the stages like keys, obstacles, and enemies to different locations and the quantity. The game is still easy, In my opinion they should haven't done this who wants to replay this long boring game more than once I did because I wanted to know if unlocking difficulties required to play it again and it did. This game can only appeal to a microscopic percent of the gaming population. It has some nice ideas but too many bad things down grades this game from being a passable ok game.
